This weekend is the last time Deacon Michael DeSaye will be with us at St. Rose of Lima. He will soon graduate from the seminary and return to his home Diocese of Trenton to prepare for Priestly ordination. I would like to take this opportunity to thank him for his service to our parish over the course of this school year. I also want to wish him all the best as he prepares to serve the Church as a Priest, and I know we will all keep him in our prayers as he does. His ordination will take place at the Cathedral in Trenton on June 2, which is the same day as our own priestly ordinations for the Diocese of Harrisburg.
I personally could not be more grateful for his time with us. Through preaching at Sunday Masses, celebrating the Sacrament of Baptism, visiting the sick of our parish, and assisting with our faith formation classes, Deacon Michael has been a wonderful, if only temporary, addition to our parish family.
His upcoming ordination is also an opportunity for us, as a parish, to continue praying for all those young men whom God is calling to the Priesthood. No two vocations look exactly alike, but they all share the common element of an individual hearing and responding to God’s call. Each of us should do our part in fostering hearts and minds open to God’s call, so that many more vocations might continue to fill our Church for years to come.
May God bless you, Deacon, as you leave us. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your service. May our Lord and His Blessed Mother guide and protect you as you prepare to serve His Church as a Priest of Jesus Christ.
